Fred Seitz has been raising horses in Central Kentucky since 1974. A graduate of St. Vincent College with a BA in English, he was a Marine Corps Aviator and a Vietnam Veteran.
Beginning as a farm manager, Fred then worked for Fasig-Tipton for 2 years before going out on his own by leasing a farm. He bought the beginning acreage of Brookdale in 1983.
A licensed trainer, he has trained five stakes winners and 3 stakes-placed horses from 2005-2012.
He is a past Kentucky Farm Manager of the Year, President of the Thoroughbred Club of America, President of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association, Officer and Trustee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, founding Trustee of the Horse Farm Workers Educational Assistance Fund, current Director of the Keeneland Association, and former Chairman of the Board of Lexington Catholic High School. He currently serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children suffering from abuse and neglect. Besides Joe and Freddy, active at Brookdale, Fred and his wife Peppe have 3 daughters, Helen McRoberts, Jane Estepp and Marianna Seitz-Ciannello.
