Brookdale has been home to many influential stallions, leading broodmares and racehorses.
Vequist (Nyquist-Vero Amore)
Vequist(Nyquist-Vero Amore) won the 2020 Spinaway S.(G1) and the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies(G1) and is likely to be crowned 2020 Champion Juvenile Filly and is an early favorite for the 2021 Kentucky Oaks. She was born and raised at Brookdale and was bred by Tom and Sue McGrath.
I’ll Have Another
I’ll Have Another (Flower Alley–Arch’s Gal Edith) was named the Champion Three Year Old after capturing both the Kentucky Derby (G1) and the Preakness Stakes (G1) in 2012. When retired, I’ll Have Another finished with 5 wins in 7 lifetime starts and earnings of $2,693,600. I’ll Have Another was born and raised at Brookdale Farm and was bred by Harvey Clarke
Tapit
2004 Wood Memorial Stakes winner Tapit (Pulpit–Tap Your Heels) was Brookdale foaled and raised. He sold as a yearling for $625,000 at the 2002 Keeneland September Sale and is a perennial leading sire in the US.
Stopchargingmaria
Stopchargingmaria (Tale of the Cat–Exotic Bloom), a Brookdale graduate of the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, won the 2015 Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (Grade 1) at age 4. Stopchargingmaria has also won the Grade 2 Black Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico along with back-to-back wins in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks and Alabama Stakes at Saratoga. She was co-bred, raised and sold by Brookdale.
Serengeti Empress
Serengeti Empress – Brookdale purchased Serengeti Empress as a foal at the Keeneland November sale and sold her as a yearling the following year. She went on the win the 2019 Kentucky Oaks among other Stakes victories.
Deputy Minister
Deputy Minister (Vice Regent) was a successful race horse with multiple graded stakes wins and a two time leading sire. He was the Horse of the Year and Champion Two Year Old Male in the USA and Canada in 1981. He was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame inductee in 1988. Deputy Minister stood at Brookdale farm from 1988 and was buried on the farm in 2004.
Monarchos
Brookdale grad Monarchos (Maria’s Mon–Regal Band) scored the 2001 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Florida Derby (G1) among four career victories. He earned more than $1.7-million lifetime.
Marley’s Freedom
A winner of 6 Graded Stakes races, including the G1 Ballerina, Marley’s Freedom was bred by Jack Swain and raised and sold by Brookdale. She earned a total of $1,233,935.
California Memory
$6.6-Million Earner and Champion Stayer in Hong Kong, 2013 | California Memory (Highest Honor–Kalpita) was bred and raised by Brookdale and sold at the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. His victories included back-to-back victories in the Hong Kong Cup (G1) and Jockey Club Cup (G2) in Hong Kong.
Bodemeister
Bodemeister (Empire Maker–Untouched Talent) was sold by Brookdale for $260,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Bodemeister was runner-up to fellow Brookdale grad I’ll Have Another in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1). Bodemeister won the Arkansas Derby (G1) and earned $1.3-million on the racetrack. His son Always Dreaming won the 2017 Kentucky Derby.
Noble Bird
Noble Bird (Birdstone/Anyhow) was bred by Jack Swain. He went on to become a multiple Graded Stakes Winner and won the 2015 G1 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs. He retired at the end of 2017 with career earnings of $1,327,945. Noble Bird was Brookdale foaled, raised and sold.
Harmonize
Harmonize (Scat Daddy/Mesa Fresca) was bred by Jack Swain at Brookdale. She is a Graded Stakes Winner at ages 2, 3, and 4 including her Grade 1 Win in the Del Mar Oaks as a 3 Year Old. She earned $827,860 on the track and was retired at the end 2017 back to Brookdale Farm.
Var
Co-Highweight Older Horse in England, 5-7 Furlongs, 2004 | Var (Forest Wildcat–Loma Praeta) won 7 of 21 lifetime starts on two continents and earned more than $300,000. His victories included the Prix de L’Abbaye (G1) in France. Var was foaled and raised by Brookdale and sold at the 2001 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and is now a perennial leading sire in South Africa.
Bluebird
Champion Sprinter in Ireland, 1987 | Bluebird (Storm Bird–Ivory Dawn) was bred and raised by Brookdale Farm and consigned to the 1985 Keeneland July Yearling Sale. Bluebird won 4 of 9 lifetime starts including the BBA Sprint S., Ballyogan S. and King’s Stand S. in Ireland.
Open Mind
Champion 2-Year-Old Filly, 1988 | Champion 3-Year-Old Filly, 1989
Champion Open Mind (Deputy Minister–Stage Luck) was prepped at Brookdale and sold at the 1987 Saratoga Yearling Sale. Open Mind’s Hall of Fame career saw her win 12 of 19 lifetime starts and earn in excess of $1.8-million. Her victories include the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies S. (G1), Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), Kentucky Oaks (G1), Alabama S. (G1), Mother Goose S. (G1) and Demoiselle S. (G1).
Brother Derek
Multiple Grade 1 winner Brother Derek (Benchmark–Miss Soft Sell) was prepped and sold by Brookdale at the 2004 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Earner of $1.6-million, Brother Derek won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby and Hollywood Futurity as well as three Grade 2 stakes at Santa Anita.
Square Eddie
Grade 1 winner Square Eddie (Smart Strike–Forty Gran) was sold by Brookdale for $200,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Square Eddie won the Grade 1 Lane’s End Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland at two, placed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), set a track record at Santa Anita at four and earned $856,042 during his distinguished career.
Jeremy
Grade 2 stakes winner Jeremy (Danehill Dancer–Glint in Her Eye) was bred, raised and sold by Brookdale at the 2003 Keeneland November Sale for $375,000. The son of Irish stallion Danehill Dancer won the Grade 2 Sandown Mile and Grade 3 Jersey Stakes, both in England.
Lost in the Fog
2005 Champion Sprinter in North America | Champion Lost in the Fog (Lost Soldier–Cloud Break) won 8-of-9 starts and earned $844,500 during his championship campaign of 2005. A track-record holder at Golden Gate Fields and Turf Paradise, he was sold by Brookdale at the 2002 Keeneland November Mixed Sale.
Mariah’s Storm
Multiple graded stakes winner Mariah’s Storm (Rahy–Immense) earned nearly $725,000. She was sold by Brookdale at the 1992 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Mariah’s Storm is best known as the dam of 2000 European Horse of the Year Giant’s Causeway.
Pool Land
Brookdale sold Grade 1 winner Pool Land (Silver Deputy-Slew City Slicker) at the 2003 Saratoga August Yearling Sale for $475,000. Pool Land won 7 of 11 career starts, including the Ruffian Handicap (G1), and earned $529,776.
Falling Sky
Multiple Grade 3 winner Falling Sky (Lion Heart–Sea Dragoness) was sold by Brookdale as a weanling at the 2010 Keeneland November Mixed Sale.
